Rattlesnake prayer plant care

Hi there. I picked up a prayer plant a few weeks ago. I'm planning on giving it a home inside a terrarium with rock dust and I've read on here and elsewhere that I should be fine.

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience growing prayer plants? How do you keep them happy and out of the dirt? And how do you keep them from becoming diseased or overgrowing?

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Thanks

I have not had any success growing prayer plants. I tried them a couple of years ago and ended up having more of a nightmare.

You cannot over water them because they like it "colder" and also will get water all over the floor/sidewalk if you have them in a pot. I think you can have any amount of soil and dirt and they will not care. But once the dirt covers a plant or if it is not kept in a proper container they like the consistency.

How are you going to keep them in a terrarium? Most are designed to be planted in a bed of soil or have a pot you fill with soil. A terrarium would be different as you would not have soil. You can find one online.

Also I do not know how these plants are called. My friends all call them prayer plants.

I would not use anything too large for the terrarium but maybe even a small plant pot that you put in the terrarium.

It sounds like a lot of fun if you just need to get some time away from it all.

We have a Prayer Tree. It has lots of leaves and is the shape of an umbrella (or upside-down U). It is actually in a large container at my in-laws. We gave them a smaller container (they already had one) for the tree and planted the sapling in it. No soil, just water and fertilize. It is actually growing, but I'm not sure how to say that.

Our in-laws wanted it to grow in their house and they wanted us to stay in theirs for a while, so we decided to do it.

I hope that they'll have it grow in the in-laws' house. I know I would be very happy if that happened.

The plant is called "Euphorbia lathyrus". We gave our in-laws some. They called it the "Prayer Tree" (even though it doesn't look like that at all). It has very beautiful yellow flowers that are actually pink in color. I'm going to take some pictures later when they bloom.

I hope your in-laws will love your tree. I have one of those trees that my husband made, and it is growing nicely, but only because it was outside and we had snow last winter and it stays outside in the winter.

Yeah, our new forum is still under construction and we have only had about a day since we've been up and running. We are learning more and more as we go, but for now the important thing is that everyone is here, we have a great discussion, and we also have a few new players around, including a couple of new members.

Our in-laws have given us a small container of dirt, which is a mix of clay and sand, and a container for the tree. We planted it yesterday and are going to fertilize it regularly.

I know I've seen that video of the guy watering his plants. It's hilarious.

There is a link at the bottom of the first page for the tree in the gallery. We're excited to get it growing.
